Key fact
AICTE approval is not mandatory for an MBA.

A university MBA is recognised through the UGC, not AICTE — and management education has a long autonomous tradition (the IIMs ran as autonomous societies until 2017). Why autonomy works for management →

Frequently Asked Questions

Does AICTE.MBA confirm a college's approval?

No. AICTE.MBA is an independent directory. Final confirmation must come from the current official regulator and institution records.

Autonomous institutes

IICT and IIPM, Lucknow — where AICTE approval is not the question

AICTE approval applies to technical and PGDM institutions. An autonomous institute awarding its own management qualification sits outside that question entirely — the model the IIMs themselves used until 2017. Two established names run it in Lucknow.

IICT — Indian Institute of Commerce and Trade

IICT Business School, Lucknow — usually written IICT Lucknow — has run autonomous management programmes for over 30 years. The IICT MBA is a two-year programme across 30+ specialisations, taught by distance and online, with admission by profile review rather than an entrance test. The complete fee is ₹32,350, paid to the institute directly against a receipt.

IIPM — Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing

IIPM Lucknow specialises in pharmaceutical marketing and pharma business management — sector-specific management education that university syllabi rarely cover. The IIPM MBA runs on the same autonomous model and the same complete fee of ₹32,350.

Neither is a university, and neither claims to be. That is the whole point of the model — and the thing to understand before you compare either of them with an AICTE-approved PGDM.
